The day was 15th of August, 2014. A cloudy sky followed by thunder and incessant rain, could not, however, play the spoilsport at the Annual prize distribution celebration of Sri Sarada Math, Rasik Bhita, Siksha-o-Sankriti Peetha at Mohit Maitra Mancha, Paikpara. Eminent guests, guardians and students turned out in full force to be an inherent part of the celebration from 3 in the afternoon.

Chanting of Shraddha Suktam by the students of Rasik Bhita marked the beginning of the programme. It was followed by the song Vande Mataram sung by the students along with Smt Jayita Ghoshal and this exquisite presentation was a real tribute to our country on a day so special for the citizens.

After the welcome address, Most Revered Pravrajika Amalaprana Mataji, General Secretary, Sri Sarada Math and Ramakrishna Sarada Mission and Mr. Parijat De, Director of Technical Education and Training, West Bengal, the chief guest for the evening, were then welcomed to the stage. Then Dr.Parijat De addressed the students. He, in his captivating speech, encouraged students by citing examples from Abraham Lincoln’s life that failures were actually pillars of success. Revered Amalaprana Mataji while addressing the audience emphasized the need to know our heritage and culture.

The first session was followed by the cultural programme, beginning with Rabindra sangeet of a different kind sung by Smt. Jayita Ghoshal followed by melodious bhajans by Miss Senjuti Das. The final and the most awaited for event of the day was the brilliant performance of the play ‘Shraddhavan Labhate Jnanam-Upamanyu Upakhyan’ by the students of the institute. The story is originally from the great epic Mahabharata where Upamanyu, a young lad of eight is denied permission to have food by his guru which seems cruel to everybody else. His guru is actually forbidding him so as to train him in self-restraint but Upamanyu himself never questions his Guru. At the end in a dramatic turn of events, exhausted by hunger he becomes blind by eating some poisonous leaves but even then refuses to have medicine offered to him by the Ashvini Kumars, the divine doctors without his Guru’s permission. Ashvini Kumars and his Guru become very pleased with him and he gets his sight back along with a blessing from his Guru that he wouldn’t need to learn shashtras but would realise the meanings automatically. The play ended with the joyful utterances of both Guru and Upamanyu as he realises the omnipresent, omniscient God. It was a seamless production with the students having delivered their best, leaving the audience in awe, wonder and happiness! The day culminated with the National Anthem being sung by all present at the function.
