On Friday, 17 April 2026, we, Rakhi Bag and Anusua Roy from Sri Sarada Math–Rasik Bhita, visited the Blind and Deaf Girls’ School at Ramakrishna Vivekananda Mission, Suryapur, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, to conduct an awareness workshop for visually impaired girls. The school follows an inclusive approach and caters to students with various disabilities, including visual impairment.
We reached the school at around 12:00 PM and first met the teachers and trainers. We explained our mission, goals, and training process, and they showed great interest in our program. Some teachers also expressed their willingness to join the training program during the summer vacation, if possible.
Later, we interacted with the students. Although the school has students from Class 1 to Class 10, attendance was low that day. We met seven students(1 persons with low vision and rest 6 of them are persons with vision Impairment) and spoke with them about the importance of digital training. We explained how mobility skills contribute to personal growth, how digital empowerment can make their lives easier, and how these skills can lead to financial independence. We also told them the importance of giving exams without scribes.
We demonstrated some accessibility tools that they can use on their smartphones to simplify daily tasks. The use of NVDA for operating a computer was also demonstrated. The students were very enthusiastic and eager to learn. They expressed a strong desire to become financially independent, and we assured them that we are here to guide them on the right path.
To make the session interactive and enjoyable games were conducted with the candidates. Activities included alphabet, coin recognition games. These helped in building confidence, improving tactile skills, and keeping the participants engaged.
