By Gold Awardee Kankana Hambir
On 6th January, 2016 at 11 am, 63 students of Rasik Bhita along with their award leader and instructors started their journey from Howrah station by Janasadharan Express and reached Raniganj station, from where they took a bus towards the campsite and reached Bisinda hills.
These three days (7th -9th )could be divided as:
Day 1: Understanding of the Adventurous journey including team building and leadership training
Day 2: Necessary equipments and their uses, technical skills, first aid and emergency procedures
Day 3: Camp craft including food and cooking
On the first day; after having our lunch, I and award leader Adrija Chatterjee pitched our tents and taught this ‘tent pitching’ process to all the bronze awardees after which our Programme Manager, Sri Bivujit Mukhoty divided us into 15 groups for accommodation in the tents.
Next day, in the morning after physical fitness training, we all started trekking towards the Bisindha hills and returned to have lunch and had a post lunch session on mountaineering knots.
On 8th January, after breakfast we had a session where we came to know about zoomering, single rope bridge, tyrolean traverse, etc.
After lunch, bronze awardees had a hands on experience of different activities like Burma bridge, spider net etc.
On 9th January, after the physical training class at 6 o’ clock, breakfast was served, post which we started moving towards a dam to do self –cooking activity. After trekking for nearly 18 kms, we reached there at 11.30 am and finished our cooking by 12.30 pm using woods from fire. Different groups cooked Khichdi, rice, daal and curry. We all enjoyed this activity and came back to our campsite at 4 pm. After tea and tiffin , we had campfire from 7 pm to 9 pm where all students performed many interesting activities.
On 10th morning we again came to Raniganj station and boarded the train to Howrah to come back home.
